Wimshurst Machine

The ideal equipment for simple demonstration of electrostatics. No electrical power is required. The unit will quickly generate a charge with regular discharge. Under correct conditions the spark will travel up to 120mm in air between electrodes. The two plates are supported in two rigid uprights and driven by a belt in the opposite direction. The plates are heavy high resistance plastic with sectors of aluminium sheet. Two leyden jars (capacitors) are made from corning glass and aluminium foil. The apparatus is mounted on a base for easy use and transportation. Diameter of plates: 310mm
