Volvox Algae

Living Algae cultures concentrated in one drop dispensers. Most are supplied in 30ml standard cultures, sufficient for up to 30 students.

Chlorella (30ml) - Monotonous non-motile tiny spherical unicells with a single parietal chloroplast. Useful alga for showing oxygen liberation during photosynthesis. Or for use in haemacytometers as substitute for blood corpuscles.

Mixed Algae (50ml) - A jar of instantly recognisable genera: typically Volvox, Chlamydomonas, Spirogyra, Chlorella and Euglena. Also included are Diatoms, Desmids, Cyanobacteria and other fascinating forms.

Scenedesmus (30ml) - An excellent example of a typical planktonic algae and amenable for demonstrating photosynthetic oxygen liberation and primary productivity. Please note: this culture requires growing-on, to make the concentration suitable for alga balls or class use.

Spirogyra (30ml) - Multichloroplast strain with a conspicuous nucleus.

Volvox (30ml) - Most impressive of all the volvocales, with thousands of individual flagellated cells forming a single colony (coenobia) and often with interior daughter colonies present.
