The new and improved Lascells Ultrasonic System is a versatile, hands-on teaching tool to facilitate the complete exploration of longitudinal wave behaviour. Enhanced with pulse modulation, the units can be used to demonstrate the principles of sound navigation and ranging (SONAR). The ping-echo time can be measured using an oscilloscope, allowing calculations to be made of the distance to an object. The transmitter unit can provide either a single or dual output, to provide for a variety of investigations including reflection, refraction, interference, diffraction, and calculating wavelength and wave speed. These compact units are battery powered, and designed to help make the teaching of wave phenomena engaging, accessible, and easy to demonstrate in the classroom.
