Lascells Compact Resonance Tube

An alternative to the traditional tube, bucket and tuning fork setup, the Lascells Compact Resonance Tube provides a simpler and more convenient way to explore standing waves and resonating air columns using water.
The apparatus features two telescopically nested tubes: the outer tube has a sealed base to contain water and a wide footprint for stability, while the inner tube can be slid to change the length of the air column in closed pipe investigations. A millimetre scale is etched on the inner tube so that the air column length can be easily and readily measured. Open pipe investigations are also possible, simply by using the inner tube independently. A 5 W loudspeaker mounted at the top connects to an amplified signal generator via 4 mm sockets. This setup allows quick identification of harmonic frequencies and accurate calculation of the speed of sound in air.
