E-Field Charge Separation Rods

Suitable for use with:

The Lascells E-Field Detector provides a new and novel way to demonstrate charge. This highly sensitive electronic device can detect very small charges and their polarity, as well as charge at a distance.
This robust apparatus allows teachers to clearly show whether a positive or negative charge has been created and in which directions the electrons have moved.
An LED array indicates positive or negative charge, as well as the size of the charge and external voltmeter sockets allow for quantitative measurements. Rubber feet on the base insulate the case.
The apparatus is quick and easy to setup and comes complete with comprehensive instructions, which include use with both traditional experiments and new exciting ways to look at charge.
Includes: Full instructions; 24V AC-DC Adapter; Earth bonding lead; BNC E-Field detector nose.
On-Off switch

Several accessories are also available for use with the E-Field Detector, as follows:

The E-Field Proof Plane is a device for transferring charge from a charged object. For example, charge a plastic strip (or other object) by rubbing with a cloth, then touch the charged strip with the proof plane. Charge will be shared between the object and the Proof Plane so both will have the same charge sign, which can be shown using the E-Field Detector.

E-Field Grounding Plate although designed for use with the E-Field Detector, this can also be used in any situation where an earthed working surface is required to neutralise electrostatic charge. Useful to help negate any environmental fluctuations in charge (e.g. relating to ambient humidity, floor surfaces etc.) that may present erroneous readings. The E-Field Detector can be connected to the grounding plate and to an earthed metal water pipe, to show the dissipation of electrostatic charge.

Charge Separation Rods allow charge from a charged object to be transferred and then separated. The rods are placed so that they touch end to end, then charged by bringing a charged object (e.g. an electrostatic rod or strip) near one end of the rods. If the charged object is the removed, and the rods moved apart without touching the metal parts, the charge on the two separated rods will be different. This can be tested-demonstrated using the E-Field Detector.
