Breckland's Supertech Event Success

We created the event to give science technicians a practical day built around their role, with opportunities to attend workshops, meet suppliers, ask questions and share ideas with others working in school science.

The event began with coffee and a welcome, followed by an opening talk from Dr Sophie Wallace, a Home Office registered Forensic Pathologist. The day concluded with a raffle, with prizes awarded to attendees at the end of the event.

Her session was well received by attendees, with feedback highlighting both the interest of the talk and the opportunity to speak with her afterwards, Sophie’s talk gave the day a strong start before attendees moved into the workshop programme.

The day concluded with a raffle, with prizes awarded to attendees at the end of the event.

Workshop Programme

The programme included four workshop sessions across the day, with each session lasting approximately 55 minutes. Workshops covered physics, biology and chemistry, giving technicians a choice of sessions relevant to different areas of the science department.

The workshops focused on practical skills, demonstrations, preparation methods and useful techniques for supporting science lessons. Attendees were able to ask questions, take part in hands-on activities and gather new ideas for their own departments.

Feedback from attendees highlighted how useful and informative the workshops were, with technicians taking new ideas and information back to their schools.

Supplier Support

The event also featured supplier and exhibitor stands, giving attendees the opportunity to see equipment, resources and demonstrations relevant to school science departments.

Thank you to all suppliers and representatives who supported the event:

  • Eisco: Graeme Coleman
  • IPC: Richard Patterson
  • Lacells: Dr Nichola Swann
  • Nickel Electro Ltd: Steve Young and Dan Norman

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the raffle and helped bring the event to a positive close.

Attendee Feedback

We were pleased to receive positive feedback from technicians who attended our first Supertech Event.

“The Supertech event was excellent. Very well organised, interesting and useful sessions and the lunch was top notch.

I particularly enjoyed Sophie’s talk and chatting with her afterwards, such a positive role model for everyone and an inspiration.”

Tina, Bishop Stopford School:

“The event was brilliant, very informative, I have bought lots of new ideas back to work from all workshops.”

Susan, Houstone School:

“Just wanted to say a big thank you for allowing me to come to your event on Wednesday and let you know how much I enjoyed it and appreciate the work in organising it all. It was good to meet you.

The talk given by Sophie was interesting and it was good to have the opportunity to speak to her afterwards.

I really enjoyed the workshops and it was good to learn some new tips and gain useful information and new ideas.

Also loved the lunch!”

"The conference was so well organised, friendly volunteers, tasty food and a chance to meet other technicians. Thank you so much."

Thank you to the 5 Dimensions Trust and Shenley Brook End School for hosting the event, to Sophie for opening the day, to all suppliers who supported the programme and to every technician who attended.

We are pleased with the response to our first Supertech Event and look forward to continuing to support science technicians through future events.
