These native woodlice are easy to care for and are ideal for studying in the laboratory or classroom. They provide a convenient way to study animal behaviour and principles of ecology on a small scale, and are particularly suitable for use in choice chambers. The cultures supplied include common native species, but these will vary depending on seasonal availability. Supplied packed with damp tissue and some rotten wood to act as a food source.Woodlice will last a week in the tub supplied, if kept correctly, i.e. cool and damp but not wet. To keep for longer periods, they should be kept in a well ventilated, lidded container, with a substrate of leaflitter. This should be kept cool and damp. Add pieces of rotten wood, tree bark or damp kitchen roll for the woodlice to congregate beneath. The main part of their diet will consist of the damp wood and paper, but small slices of potato or apple can be added to supplement this.
