A good quality, reliable, mains operated Van de Graaff generator, for demonstrating electrostatic charge and discharge. The apparatus comprises a robust metal base, which houses the motor, with a clear acrylic column mounted on top, where the charge belt is located. On top of the column is a 220mm diameter conducting sphere (dome) which stores the electrostatic charge generated by the rollers and transferred via the charge belt. Also included is a smaller (100mm diameter) discharge sphere, mounted on an offset rod with a 4mm plug at the end, which can be inserted into the earthed 4mm socket on the base unit. The charge built up in the main dome can then be heard and seen to discharge to the smaller sphere, when sparks jump across the air gap between the two.Supplied complete with 100mm diameter discharge sphere, dust Cover and accessories kit (see ECT-450-100 for full details). Spare belt has a 740mm circumference x 48mm width.
• 220mm diameter sphere• Produces up to 300KV (depending on conditions)• Base dimensions: 218 x 182 x 93mm• Overall Height: 500mm• Operating Voltage: 220 to 240V AC
Q = What are the dimensions of the Van de Graaff?A = Sphere diameters: 225 mm and 70 mm (main & discharge spheres) Height: Approx. 650 mm Base size: 250 x 350 mm
