Carbon exists in many different forms (allotropes), each with different physical characteristics - the various properties depending on the arrangement of atoms within their structures. The Molymod self-assembly carbon models include examples of these different structures, including Graphite, Diamond, Buckminsterfullerene (‘Buckyball’), Graphene and Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs). Some of these topical materials are providing many exciting new opportunities in engineering and material sciences, with their unique mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical properties.
The Graphene model kit is designed to make a single layer model of Graphene – a one-atom-thick layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice, which is also the building-block of Graphite. Supplied with instructions.
