The Velocity of Sound apparatus, from Lascells, provides an experimental method for measuring the characteristics of sound waves. Experiments include measuring the velocity of sound waves and investigations into stationary waves, such as compression, rarefaction, interference etc. A sensitive microphone, mounted on a moveable base and placed on the linear scale of the apparatus, allows for measurements to be taken along the path of the sound wave emanating from a small loudspeaker, which acts as a sound generator. The loudspeaker requires connection to a standard signal generator, for the sound source (not supplied). Analysis of the speed of sound is best carried out using a digital dual beam oscilloscope (either conventional or PC based). A moveable reflector plate is also included, for reflecting sound waves when studying interference etc. The loudspeaker unit and reflection plate are both clampable, as well as moveable along the base plate/rail. Dimensions: 400 × 100 × 100mm.
