A reed switch with an integral activating electromagnet (coil). When current flows through the coil it acts as an electromagnet, causing the reed switch contacts to close. This then allows current to flow in a separate circuit - so the switch acts as a relay, allowing the flow of larger currents to be switched on or off in one circuit by a low current in a separate, isolated circuit. The reed switch contacts are rated at 0.5 A and the coil requires 5 V at 10 mA.
