The Lascells Timer Light Gate Mk 2 has been designed to allow precision measurement of time and velocity, and is ideal for use in GCSE and A-Level required practicals. Applications include; the study of ‘g’ by free fall, projectile motion and dynamics, and this light gate enables accurate and repeatable results. Connection is via the 3.5 mm stereo jack, providing quick and easy connection to a compatible millisecond timer, allowing students to precisely measure and record the motion of an object.
The light gate incorporates an infrared emitter to provide the light beam, and a fast acting infrared receiver (photodetector) for improved accuracy of the measurements. During use, the light beam is continuous until broken by an object or interrupt card moving through the beam, triggering the timer to start or stop.
Requires a compatible millisecond timer, e.g. TMH-825-100 or TMH-835-100, or can be used in conjunction with the light gate adaptor, TMH-815-120, which converts the jack plug to 4 mm sockets for use with timers with 4 mm connectors.
Two light gates can be combined for more versatility e.g. to allow measurement of acceleration, or when the distance between measurements is large (such as on a dynamics runway or linear air track).
